Apple resumes iPhone sales in Russia with increased pricing

Apple resumes iPhone sales in Russia with increased pricing

Apple resumes iPhone sales in Russia with increased pricing

Less than a week after it halted online sales in Russia, Apple resumed offering its products in the country. Unsurprisingly, the Cupertino giant increased the prices of its iPhone lineup to counter the drop of the local currency against the U.S. dollar.

Apple iPhone 6 with 16GB of on-board memory now costs 53,990 rubles (about $956). The price is up by roughly a third over the 39,990 rubles that the manufacturer previously asked for the smartphone.
The latest iPhone 6 price hike, coupled with loss of value of the Russian ruble, means that the smartphone is now almost 70% more expensive than a month ago. Apple previously raised prices in the country at the end of last month.
Apples Russian App Store applications have also gotten more expensive. Basic iOS apps now cost 62 rubles as opposed to 33 rubles before.

Apple now sells unlocked iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus in US

Apple now sells unlocked iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus in US

Nearly a month after releasing the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, Apple is giving consumers the option of purchasing the unlocked versions of its latest flagships in US. The "SIM-free" models are available in all the color and storage configurations as their carrier counterparts, with prices starting at the same $649 for the iPhone 7 and $769 for the iPhone 7 Plus.

The unlocked iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus models carry the designation A1778 and A1784, and support the same LTE bands as the AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon versions. But what are the differences?

The main difference between the unlocked and carrier versions of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, as Apple explains on its website, is that the SIM-free versions do not ship with a carrier SIM card and "work with any carrier".

Meanwhile, Apple notes, the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus models designed for AT&T and T-Mobile will be limited to 3G for voice services while data can be "either 3G or 4G LTE", when connected to a CDMA network. However, the Sprint and Verizon versions can work on AT&T and T-Mobile as well.

If you are thinking of buying the unlocked version to get an iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus faster you should know that shipping times range between a couple of days to a whole month, depending on the configuration that you want.

Apple Siapkan iPhone Edge

Apple Siapkan iPhone Edge

Apple Siapkan iPhone Edge?

Apple is smart to enlist hackers and iPhone 7 jailbreakers to secure iOS and macOS

Apple is smart to enlist hackers and iPhone 7 jailbreakers to secure iOS and macOS

Apple has historically been very guarded and secretive. While this is still true today, the company has definitely become more open after Steve Jobs death. Quite frankly, the fact that there are now public betas for both iOS and macOS is mind-blowing for the Apple faithful. Last month, the company even launched its first bug bounty program! Why did Apple soften its guarded position? It had to. As the technology market advances, and security becomes a bigger focus, it is not possible to catch all bugs and vulnerabilities in house.

While the bug bounty and public betas were very wise moves, the company is apparently taking things a step further. According to Forbes, Apple is enlisting iPhone jailbreakers and other hackers (such as Luca Todesco, Nicholas Allegra and Patrick Wardle) to bolster the security of its products using the aforementioned bug bounty program. In fact, it is rumored to be happening at a secret meeting. If true, is the company smart to trust these people?

Many iPhone users like jailbreaking their devices, and yeah, I can understand the appeal. You can make your phone do things that Apple did not intend, including fun customizations. The problem? It makes your iPhone or iPad less secure. Every time an exploit is discovered that allows jailbreaking, or a vulnerability is discovered in macOS, it highlights a bug that Apple missed -- it is embarrassing for the company.

Some bugs and vulnerabilities can be exploited by malware, as we saw last month. While the iPhone is viewed by many as secure, hackers were found to be spying on people. It was quickly patched with iOS 9.3.5, but there is no telling how long the vulnerability had been in the wild. This malware in particular highlights why Apple must do whatever it can to secure its products -- including working with known hackers.

Unfortunately, selling these bugs and exploits to nefarious groups and governments can be quite lucrative -- it is big business. In order for Apple to recruit these people into its program, it has to do one of two things -- outbid other entities that purchase them, or build a relationship with the hackers. If Apple has really invited these people as Forbes claims, they may be trying to do the latter.

Besides the previously mentioned invitees, who else is attending? Forbes says the following.
Forbes believes others who made the cut include noted iPhone and Mac hackers Francisco Alonso, Stefan Esser, Braden Thomas, Pedro Vilaca and Jonathan Zdziarski. Former Apple engineer Alex Ionescu, Steven De Franco (better known in the jailbreak community as ih8sn0w), and a member of the famous Pangu jailbreak crew, Hao Xu, are also amongst the invitees.
Whether or not this secret meeting pays off for Apple remains to be seen. If the maximum the iPhone-maker will pay is $200,000, and other groups (such as Cellebrite) will offer them more, these hackers and jailbreakers may be tempted to cut Apple out. Cash is king, right?

Tim Cook and company may want to consider higher bounty payments, or to take things further, hire these people full time. Yes, I am actually suggesting making these people official Apple employees. With that said, they will need to be vetted, of course. These folks are undoubtedly smart, but their trustworthiness and ability to adapt to the corporate world will need to be proven.

Do you think Apple is wise to work with jailbreakers and hackers or is it playing with fire? Tell me in the comments.

Apple Begins Production of Force Touch Enabled iPhone Models Report

Apple Begins Production of Force Touch Enabled iPhone Models Report

iphone_gold_grey.jpg
Apple has reportedly begun production of its next-generation iPhone models, expected to be called the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus.
As per a report by Bloomberg, the Cupertino giant has integrated its Force Touch technology in the new iPhone displays.
The Force Touch technology was first introduced in the Apple Watch, followed by the new 12-inch MacBook. It can detect different touch pressures which can then be used to display more options to users than regular touch.
The report, which cites people with knowledge of the matter, adds that Apple has been working for the past two years to integrate the technology into iPhone displays, and that the latest iPhone models will be almost identical to the last generation except for the inclusion of Force Touch.
The report is in line with several other leaks in the past few months, with the most recent indicating the new iPhone models will be slightly longer (0.15mm) and thicker (0.2mm) to accommodate the Force Touch technology.
The Bloomberg report also adds that the company is expected to ramp up volume production of the next iPhone models as early as next month, and though the company expects production to be streamlined due to the similarity of this years and last years models, there might be a delay because of the supply and yields of the new type of Force Touch display.
So far, the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus are expected to feature the same 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch displays respectively as last years models, but bring additions like 2GB of LPDDR4 RAM, a 12-megapixel rear camera instead of an 8-megapixel offering, and an upgraded front-facing FaceTime camera with 1080p recording apart from a front-facing flash.

Apple unveils new TV App for Apple TV iPhone and iPad

Apple unveils new TV App for Apple TV iPhone and iPad

We were expecting Apple to release a new app for Apple TV at its "Hello Again" event, and that was the first thing that the tech giant showed off.

Called simply TV, the new app lets you discover and watch TV shows and movies from multiple apps on Apple TV, iPhone and iPad. Theres also a new Siri feature for Apple TV that lets viewers quickly tune in to live news and sporting events.

Siri is aware of where sports events and news are being shown, and users can simply say things like, "Watch the Stanford game", "Which football games are on right now?" or "Watch CBS News" (all Apples own examples) and Siri will switch to the relevant live broadcast.

"Using apps on Apple TV, iPhone and iPad has become the primary way for so many of us to watch television", said Eddy Cue, Apples senior vice president of Internet Software and Services. "The TV app shows you what to watch next and easily discover TV shows and movies from many apps in a single place".

Apple showed off the following key features:
  • Watch Now: Watch Now is where viewers will see their collection of available shows and movies from iTunes and apps. From Watch Now, viewers can then go to Up Next or Recommended to choose what to watch.
  • Up Next: Users can enjoy the shows and movies they are currently watching, including recent iTunes rentals and purchases -- all presented in the order they are most likely to watch first. For example, when viewers finish an episode, the next one will automatically appear at the start of the Up Next queue, as will any new episodes as they become available. At any time, users can simply ask Siri to continue watching a show and immediately pick up where they left off.
  • Recommended: Viewers can explore a great selection of curated and trending shows and movies, including collections handpicked by Apples curators, and dedicated categories and genres such as kids, sci-fi and comedy.
  • Library: Viewers can access their entire collection of iTunes movies and TV shows that they have rented or purchased on iTunes.
  • Store: If users are looking for something new, they can check out the Store to discover great new content across video services that they have not yet downloaded or are not yet subscribed to, along with the latest releases on iTunes.
  • The TV app will allow users to begin watching on one device and pick up where they left off on another.

In addition to the new TV app, customers in the US will have a simplified way of enjoying their pay-TV video apps by using single sign-on. Starting in December, subscribers to DIRECTV, DISH Network and others will be able to sign in once on Apple TV, iPhone and iPad to access apps that are part of their pay-TV subscription.

The TV app and single sign-on will be available in December as free software updates for Apple TV (4th generation), iPhone and iPad customers in the US. Live tune-in with Siri is available today.

Apple clueless about how FBI hacked shooter’s iPhone without help

Apple clueless about how FBI hacked shooter’s iPhone without help

The FBIs announcement that it mysteriously hacked into an iPhone is a public setback for Apple Inc., as consumers suddenly discover they cant keep their most personal information safe. Meanwhile, Apple remains in the dark about how to restore the security of its flagship product.

The government said it was able to break into an iPhone used by a gunman in a mass shooting in California, but it didnt say how. That puzzled Apple software engineers and outside experts about how the FBI broke the digital locks on the phone without Apples help. It also complicated Apples job repairing flaws that jeopardize its software.

The Justice Departments announcement that it was dropping a legal fight to compel Apple to help it access the phone also took away any obvious legal avenues Apple might have used to learn how the FBI did it.

Magistrate Judge Sheri Pym vacated her Feb. 16 order, which compelled Apple to help the FBI hack their phone, on Tuesday.

The Justice Department declined through a spokeswoman to comment Tuesday.

A few clues have emerged. A senior law enforcement official told The Associated Press that the FBI managed to defeat an Apple security feature that threatened to delete the phones contents if the FBI failed to enter the correct passcode combination after 10 tries. That allowed the government to repeatedly and continuously test passcodes in whats known as a brute-force attack until the right code is entered and the phone is unlocked.

It wasnt clear how the FBI dealt with a related Apple security feature that introduces increasing time delays between guesses. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because this person was not authorized to discuss the technique publicly.

FBI Director James Comey has said with those features removed, the FBI could break into the phone in 26 minutes.

The FBI hacked into the iPhone used by gunman Syed Farook, who died with his wife in a gun battle with police after they killed 14 people in December in San Bernardino. The iPhone, issued to Farook by his employer, the county health department, was found in a vehicle the day after the shooting.

The FBI is reviewing information from the iPhone, and it is unclear whether anything useful can be found.

Apple said in a statement Monday that the legal case to force its cooperation should never have been brought, and it promised to increase the security of its products. CEO Tim Cook has said the Cupertino-based company is constantly trying to improve security for its users.

The FBIs announcement even without revealing precise details that it had hacked the iPhone was at odds with the governments firm recommendations for nearly two decades that security researchers always work cooperatively and confidentially with software manufacturers before revealing that a product might be susceptible to hackers.

The aim is to ensure that American consumers stay as safe online as possible and prevent premature disclosures that might damage a U.S. company or the economy.

As far back as 2002, the Homeland Security Department ran a working group that included leading industry technology industry executives to advise the president on how to keep confidential discoveries by independent researchers that a companys software could be hacked until it was already fixed. Even now, the Commerce Department has been trying to fine-tune those rules. The next meeting of a conference on the subject is April 8 in Chicago and its unclear how the FBIs behavior in the current case might influence the governments fragile relationship with technology companies or researchers.

The industrys rules are not legally binding, but the governments top intelligence agency said in 2014 that such vulnerabilities should be reported to companies.

When federal agencies discover a new vulnerability in commercial and open source software a so-called zero day vulnerability because the developers of the vulnerable software have had zero days to fix it it is in the national interest to responsibly disclose the vulnerability rather than to hold it for an investigative or intelligence purpose, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence said in a statement in April 2014.

The statement recommended generally divulging such flaws to manufacturers unless there is a clear national security or law enforcement need.

Last week a team from Johns Hopkins University said they had found a security bug in Apples iMessage service that would allow hackers under certain circumstances to decrypt some text messages. The team reported its findings to Apple in November and published an academic paper after Apple fixed it.

Thats the way the research community handles the situation. And thats appropriate, said Susan Landau, professor of cybersecurity policy at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. She said it was acceptable for the government to find a way to unlock the phone but said it should reveal its method to Apple.

Mobile phones are frequently used to improve cybersecurity, for example, as a place to send a backup code to access a website or authenticate a user.

The chief technologist at the Center for Democracy and Technology, Joseph Lorenzo Hall, said keeping details secret about a flaw affecting millions of iPhone users is exactly opposite the disclosure practices of the security research community. The FBI and Apple have a common goal here: to keep people safe and secure. This is the FBI prioritizing an investigation over the interests of hundreds of millions of people worldwide.

Apple iPhone 6

Apple iPhone 6

After years of mocking rivals for producing larger and larger screens, and sticking to its pocket-sized principles, Apple finally caved in this year, introducing not one larger-screened model, but two: the iPhone 6 with a 4.7in screen, and the iPhone 6 Plus with a 5.5in screen. Its quite a climbdown on Apples part, but it had to do it: another year with only a 4in screen on its flagship phone and consumers would have voted with their feet, steadily trickling away to Samsung, HTC, and LGs larger-screened alternatives. See also: the 17 best smartphones of 2015.
In reality, Apple shouldnt have been so frightened to make the move, because neither of the new phones feels out of place in todays large-screen-obsessed smartphone market.

Apple iPhone 6: size and design

The iPhone 6, the smaller of the two phones, is the one that works best. Apple has gone back to rounded edges this time around, moving away from the dead straight sides of the previous four handsets (the edges of the glass on the front are slightly curved, too), and this works to create an impression that the phone is smaller than it is. Its comfortable to hold, doesnt feel too slippery in your hand an accusation we could level at the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5s and the 4.7in screen size feels just right.
Apple iPhone 6
If youve been worried about the jump in screen size from the 5s 4in diagonal, youll wonder what all the fuss was about once you get your hands on the iPhone 6. Yes, its taller, wider and a touch heavier than its predecessor at 129g, but its far from unwieldy, even when slotted into one of Apples wraparound leather cases. In fact, the extra size means its easier to use in some respects: typing accurately, for instance, becomes far easier thanks to the larger onscreen keys, and using the iPhone 6 as a satnav in the car is a far more pleasurable experience with the extra screen real estate.
The sheer thinness of the handset makes it pretty comfortable to hold, too. It measures only 7.1mm from front to back, 0.5mm slimmer than the iPhone 5s, and in the current smartphone market its out-skinnied only by the skeletal Huawei Ascend P7 (6.5mm).
Apple has put some thought into helping those who just dont get on with the size of the new phone: a light double-tap on the home button slides the whole screen down, allowing one-handed access to icons, buttons and address menus located in the top half of the screen. However, after several months of use, we dont really think its needed. We can count the number of times weve deliberately engaged it on the fingers of one hand; in fact, after a while we simply forgot the iPhone had grown, and got on with life. We certainly wouldnt want to go back to the tiny iPhone 5s.
Apple iPhone 6
Aside from the size, there are a couple of other physical changes to take note of. The power button has moved from the top edge of the device to the side, simultaneously making it easier to reach and also a little easier to hit by mistake when picking up the phone. The volume buttons are long and slim instead of circular, which makes them a touch easier to find without looking, and theres now a single speaker grille on the bottom edge of the phone, where the iPhone 5s had a pair.
The oddest change to the design, however, is the protruding camera lens, which sticks out around a millimetre from the rear of the case. In everyday use, you probably wont notice it: it doesnt stick out far enough to catch on the lip of your pocket when sliding it in and out, you wont feel it when holding the phone and if you put your iPhone 6 in a case the point is moot anyway.
The only major concern is for those who prefer to enjoy their iPhone in the metal; with the lens bearing the brunt of the impact every time you slap the phone down on a flat, hard surface, we have concerns about how long it will last.

Apple iPhone 6: display

The sleek industrial design is accompanied by a swathe of upgrades to the hardware inside, but its the screen that makes the biggest impact. Along with the increase in size, Apple has boosted the iPhone 6s resolution to 750 x 1,344, giving a pixel density of 327ppi (a mere fraction higher than the iPhone 5s 326ppi), and it looks pin-sharp.
Brightness, contrast and colour accuracy are also all exemplary, with the iPhone reaching a maximum brightness of 585cd/m2, gaining an eye-popping 1,423:1 contrast ratio, a highly impressive colour accuracy rating with a Delta E of 1.74, and sRGB coverage of 95%. That contrast ratio is particularly impressive, and a significant improvement on the 5s 972:1, lending onscreen images a little more depth and dynamism.
Apple iPhone 6
Theres one small caveat to all this, however. On our sample model, we noticed a dim strip around 5mm thick running along the top of the screen. Initially we didnt spot it thanks to the clutter of menus, but when we dropped into the full-screen reading view on the Kindle app, it became immediately apparent. Its a shame, since aside from this, the iPhone 6s display is as good as weve seen on any smartphone.

Apple iPhone 6: performance

Behind the screen, the changes are even more dramatic. The iPhone 6, along with its big brother, sports a new dual-core A8 CPU, with 1GB of RAM, upgraded graphics and an improved M8 motion coprocessor (thats the low-power chip designed to save energy by monitoring the phones sensors). There are models with 16GB, 64GB and 128GB of storage (but, oddly, no 32GB model), and Apple has added a barometer to the phones line-up of sensors, for more accurate reporting of relative altitude and atmospheric pressure.
It comes as little surprise to find that the iPhone 6 feels completely smooth in general use. We noticed no judder or hitching while moving around in iOS 8, browsing graphics-heavy web pages, or panning and zooming in Google or Apple Maps. Given that iOS 8 runs smoothly on the two-generations-old hardware in the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5c, that much is to be expected. However, the performance of the new processor in benchmarks is dramatically quicker than any of its predecessors. We started with the simple, single-threaded SunSpider JavaScript test, which the iPhone 6 dispatched in 347ms. Only the Samsung Galaxy S5 gets close to this, with a time of 391ms.
Apple iPhone 6
Moving on to the slightly more demanding Peacekeeper benchmark, we saw a score of 2,533 way in front of every other smartphone weve tested. Its the same story in Geekbench 3, with a single-core score of 1,631 that wipes the floor with everything else, and a multi-core score thats only marginally beaten by the quad-core Qualcomm hardware in the Samsung Galaxy S5. Given that the iPhone 6 has half the number of cores as the Samsung, its still a seriously impressive showing. And as for the GFXBench T-Rex HD gaming test, theres simply no competition: the only phone capable of beating the iPhone 6s 51fps is the iPhone 6 Plus, which averaged a silky smooth 53fps despite its higher-resolution Full HD screen.

Apple iPhone 6: battery life

Perhaps more importantly, battery life is also excellent. The new, more efficient 20nm CPU clearly helps here: playing a 720p video with flight mode on and the screen set to a brightness of 120cd/m2, the battery depleted at 7.5% per hour, while streaming audio continuously from our SoundCloud account over 3G with the screen off reduced capacity at 1.7% per hour. The former result isnt all that special: plenty of other phones weve seen perform at this level or better, notably the Sony Xperia Z2 (5.6%), Samsung Galaxy S5 (5.2%) and the HTC One M8 (6.5%). But none of these handsets can match the iPhone 6s results in the 3G streaming test, a figure that points at highly impressive standby performance.
Even in continuous use, though, the iPhone 6 is one of the longest-lasting phones out there. In one morning, the battery dropped from 100% to only 84% during four hours of heavy testing. In that time, we streamed a podcast for 1hr 32mins, downloaded and installed the Facebook and Twitter apps, ran the Peacekeeper benchmark twice and the SunSpider browser test once, received a short phone call, and replied to a handful of texts. During this period the display was on constantly. This is a phone that will easily get you through a day and a half of moderate to light use and, if youre careful, two full days is not beyond it.
Apple iPhone 6
As with most smartphones, this does depend on your usage, and one thing that hits battery life hard is gaming. In the GFXBench battery test, which loops a 3D OpenGL animation for around half an hour and then estimates total runtime, the iPhone 6 achieved a total runtime of 2hrs 29mins. Thats an improvement over the iPhone 5s 1hr 52mins (impressive given how many more frames the phone is rendering), but it still indicates that graphics-heavy gaming will lead to a significantly shorter time span between charging sessions.
Elsewhere, Apple has added NFC to the iPhone 6, which is used solely for the Apple Pay touch credit-card payment system it isnt used for Bluetooth pairing. Its an interesting development that could eventually see you paying for your morning coffee by tapping your phone to a card reader, and uses the phones Touch ID fingerprint reader in conjunction with your credit-card details to provide increased security. Since the system wont arrive in the UK until early 2015 at the earliest, however, we dont think its anything to get worked up about. Youll still need your plastic for the foreseeable future.
Were much more interested in the move, finally, to 802.11ac from 802.11n. Connection speed is a maximum of 433Mbits/sec, so its single stream, and at close range using the FileBrowser app to transfer a large movie file from shared NAS storage to the iPhone, we saw roughly twice the speed from the iPhone 6 over the 5s, with transfer rates hovering between 7.5MB/sec and 8.5MB/sec over 802.11ac compared to between 6MB/sec and 7MB/sec for the 5s over 802.11n.

Apple iPhone 6: cameras

On paper, the camera isnt a huge upgrade from last years flagship. You get an 8-megapixel 1/3in backside-illuminated CMOS sensor with 1.5 micron photo sites, and an aperture of f/2.2 the same as the 5s. Its accompanied by Apples True Tone flash so indoor shots dont look horribly washed out and ghostly.
The difference is that the camera now sports a number of phase-detect autofocus pixels on the surface of the sensor, in a similar fashion to the Galaxy S5 and many enthusiast and high-end SLR cameras, enabling much faster autofocus.
Apple iPhone 6
In practice, what this means is that the iPhone 6 will almost instantly transition from focusing on a subject thats far away to one thats really close, where the iPhone 5s would take a second or so. This isnt such a dramatic upgrade for taking photographs, but it makes a big difference with video: the highly effective digital stabilisation and super-quick focusing combine to produce stunning Full HD video, with much less focus hunting.
Alas, the other major upgrade optical image stabilisation is restricted to the iPhone 6s big brother, the iPhone 6 Plus. Even there, Apple is restricting its use to low-light conditions and stills. It isnt used in video mode, presumably to save on battery life.
Apple iPhone 6
What this all boils down to is that most of what we said about the iPhone 5s rear camera still holds true of the iPhone 6s. It produces clean, detailed and well-exposed photographs in most conditions, but isnt quite as good as the Nokia Lumia 1020 in low light.
Its digital image stabilisation remains excellent, and produces smooth, shake-free videos. The only difference is that the iPhone 6s improved processing engine tends to apply less aggressive noise-reduction settings, leading to slightly grainier but more detailed photos in low light.
Apple iPhone 6
The front-facing camera, or "selfie" camera as were encouraged to label it these days, also gains from a small improvement. Although resolution remains the same at 1.2 megapixels, the aperture is now a wide f/2.2, which lets in "81% more light", and theres also a burst mode to help capture your best side. It produces more detailed, cleaner self-portraits in low light, but in brighter conditions youll struggle to tell the difference between the iPhone 6 and the 5s.
To round things off, Apple has added a handful of features to the camera front-end. Top of the list is a timelapse video feature, which produces top-quality sped-up footage, and theres also an additional Slo-mo mode, which captures video at 240fps twice the frame rate of the iPhone 5s. This is an impressive achievement for a smartphone camera, and the resulting videos look incredible.

Apple iPhone 6: Apple iOS 8

Of course, it wouldnt be an iPhone launch without an upgrade to the software and theres plenty to get your teeth stuck into with iOS 8.
Headline features include the ability to respond to messages directly from the pull-down notifications menu, meaning you dont have to leave the app youre using when you receive a text. The scope of the iPhones Spotlight search has expanded to include results from the web and the App Store as well as items in your iTunes library; the Photos gallery app now boasts a hugely improved range of editing tools; and the camera app has live onscreen exposure adjustment.
Family Sharing finally makes it possible to share apps and other iTunes purchases with family members, so you dont up paying twice. Up to six members of your household are covered. Family Sharing also makes it possible to let your kids own an iPod or iPhone and associate it with an Apple ID of their own. We found the system worked perfectly when we tried it, even with a fifth generation iPod restricted to iOS 6, setting it up so our test subject was able to browse and select apps for purchase, but only download and install those apps with parental approval from another device.
Open keyboard support lets you install alternative keyboards such as SwiftKey and Swype, however this isnt the best implemented feature in iOS 8. Some apps seem to override the keyboard youve chosen, and its all too easy to switch back to the standard iOS 8 keyboard by accident. Its just as well that Apple has also improved the default keyboard, then, with multiple word suggestions that appear in a row immediately above the keyboard, rather than the fiddly bubbles that used to appear next to the word you were typing.
Elsewhere, the terrifyingly comprehensive Health app is designed to hook into all your fitness software, although we havent yet seen any of our favourite third-party apps such as Strava, RunKeeper and Zombies, Run take advantage. iCloud Drive finally brings unified cloud storage to iCloud for documents; support for this is built into Pages and Numbers from the start, and other developers can also tap into it.
It isnt all good news, though. As with most new operating system releases, iOS 8 has had its fair share of bugs since it, but some are quite serious: our iPhone 6 Plus would drop its Wi-Fi connection every two to three hours and then fail to find any Wi-Fi networks to reconnect to. An update fixed our problem, but many users of older devices had to wait until iOS 8.1.1 before a fix to their Wi-Fi woes was delivered.

Apple iPhone 6: new features in iOS 8 updates

Fortunately, Apple hasnt only been fixing bugs since the iOS 8 was introduced. Several new features have been added as well, most of which are focussed on helping iOS devices integrate more tightly with Macs running OS X Yosemite. Its now possible to receive and reply to SMS messages across all your Apple devices, for instance, and Instant Hotspot allows your Mac to tether to your iPhones data connection with a single click - with no need to activate the feature on the handset.
The old Photo Stream app has now been replaced by the beta of iCloud Photo Library. This makes it possible to view all your photos via a browser at iCloud.com, and also removes the 1000-photo restriction of Photo Stream - given enough iCloud storage you can store as many photos as you want.
Support for Apple Pay has finally arrived, too - or at least it has if youre based in the US. Sadly, the UK will have to wait until later in 2015 to take advantage of Apples contactless payment system.
Apple iPhone 6 review

Apple iPhone 6 review: verdict

The iPhone 6 is a thorough pleasure to use. An iPhone with a larger screen works very well indeed, so much so that we wonder why Apple didnt do it sooner. But the question is: has Apple done enough? In some respects, wed say they have: battery life is excellent, the display largely superb, the camera as good as any weve seen bar the Lumia 1020, and when it comes to performance, the iPhone 6 kicks every other smartphone on the market into touch.
But, once again, its undermined by Apples intransigence on price and upgradability. Supplying only 16GB in a phone that costs 539 SIM-free and commands a huge premium on contract is mean beyond belief, and the fact theres no storage expansion simply compounds the problem. In truth, we wouldnt consider shelling out on anything less than the 64GB iPhone 6 and, at 619 inc VAT, thats substantially more expensive than any other flagship handset out there.
Yet, despite those qualms, the iPhone 6 is so accomplished that to not give it some sort of acknowledgement would be churlish. The Apple iPhone 6 is a superb all-round handset, and at least as good as anything on the market right now if you can afford it, you wont be disappointed.

Android vs iPhone

Android vs iPhone

Android VS iPhone! Here is the list of differences between an android phone and iPhone. The top nine differences between Android and iPhone are -

1) Browsing
Browsing with Android phone is much faster and easier. Android supports flash website which is not in iPhone. You can see all flash based websites and you can also play Facebook games such as Facebook City-City Farm Town.

2) Connectivity
On Android, you have 4 buttons -
Enable/disable Bluetooth
Enable/disable WiFi
Enable/disable Mobile Network
Enable/disable GPS
A press and youre done! There is also an application on the Android Market called Y5, which
disables the wireless network automatically when no known wireless network is detected. Now with iPhone, you must go through various options to control connections.

3)PC Connection
iTunes is compulsory to connect your iPhone to a PC. But with Android, you have to just drag and drop.

4) Multi - notification
In iPhone, to receive a notification of a specific program such as Facebook, Facebook application must be open.
But in Android, you will receive all updates in the notification bar for all your social activities in one place whether it is an e-mail, a tweet, a facebook update, an SMS or a missed call.

5) Personalization
Using the iPhone, you should stick with Apple prefixed look settings. But in Android, you can customize your phone look as per your choice.
If you are a social networking lover, then you can have a screen for Facebook, one for Twitter, and one for Flickr. If youre a business person, then you can have a screen for contacts, one for calendar, one for mail, one for for RSS feeds, and more.

6) Application Market
For the iPhone there is the Apple Store and so for Android. The Android Market is one of the hottest markets. You can find applications for anything and it is very easy to install them as well. There are billions of free applications for you.

7) Google compatibility
You will be surprised to see how Android and Google are so user friendly and easy to communicate with all its services.

8) Open Source
There are thousands of  developers working on Androids software and upgrades, tweaking performance. So if a bug is detected, it is fixed quickly. iPhone Open source? Dont ask!!

9) Android allows you to choose your hardware
This is the best option available with Android. Apple says "think different", but when it comes to hardware you do not have much choice. Its either black or white, 16 GB or 64 GB, so youre stuck with 3.5-inch, 320 480 pixels display, 256 MB RAM and a 600MHz processor. But in case of  Android, they adapt to any hardware configuration whether it is Nexus One (with 3.7-inch 480800 pixel display, 512 MB of RAM and 1GHz Snapdragon processor) or the Motorola Droid that has a physical keyboard.
